| The Bunbury Men of Song BMOS is an all-male choir whose members live in and around Bunbury, Western Australia; a bunch of blokes who enjoy singing. The choir formed in 1998. When the guys are not singing in the choir, they sing while they sell cars, work farms, practice accounting, work in administration and trades, run small businesses, enjoy their families, and some even work at retirement. There are between 20 and 30 choristers at any one time. The choir has a growing repertoire and includes songs from shows and musicals. There are popular favorites like Bring Him Home, Nothin’ Like a Dame, Unchained Melody, and new songs like Down Under and I Am Australian (from Musicals, the Classics, Gospel, Australian, even Rock and Roll) all with the unique BMOS ‘fair dinkum South West’ style. Their first taste of competition was The Central South Eisteddfod in Narrogin in May 1999 where they took second place. Then in June of that year they took first place at the Bunbury City Eisteddfod. In September they gave their first major concert in Bunbury on Fathers’ Day. They perform on a regular basis in and around the South West and also travel to Perth metropolitan areas where they have sung at the Lutheran Church in Northbridge, the Uniting Church at Guildford and appeared with The Perth City Concert Band at the Mundaring Amphitheatre. Other major performances include a concert on the famous stage at the Leeuwin Estate for a Rotary Conference where they combined with the Bunbury City Concert Band and gave a stirring rendition of The Battle Hymn of the Republic. They sang in Wickepin at the 2000 Sing Out Festival and at the 2004 Festival held in Narrogin where they gave one or their greater performances. A highlight of the Narrogin event was the opportunity to join with the Wellington NZ Male-voice Choir to form a 60 member men’s choir to perform two songs from their ever growing repertoire. In the Bunbury Sing Out Festival held in November 2005, they were the hit of the Festival with the Mark Puddy arrangement of “Three Blind Mice”. Early in 2006 the guys competed in the A.B.C. Choral Festival and held their annual Bunbury Concert to a big enthusiastic audience at The Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre. The choir still harbors a dream of travelling to the U.K. to sing. They have made numerous contacts with towns in the U.K. willing to host them should they venture from their homeland. In the meantime, The Bunbury Men of Song is embarking on tours further and further away from Bunbury each year. The 2007 Concert Season was a heavy schedule for BMOS beginning with their first-time Concerts in Katanning and Albany and went on to the annual (and very successful) Concert in Bunbury, thence to Manjimup. The choir is looking forward to the prospect of return visits after last year’s inaugural concerts. These musical blokes will also perform at many Christmas Carol-singing venues and sing at the Lord Mayor’s Garden Party in Bunbury in December. The year 2008 will see the choir starting with a Concert in Augusta in April, Other centres that have caught the eye of the Events Coordinator are possible concerts in Esperance, Lake Grace, Kalgoorlie, Bruce Rock and Merredin. The choir has a positive “have song will travel” attitude which could see them taking their unique brand of entertainment wherever they are sought, in fact anywhere in the State, our nation or indeed the world. Nothing matches the sound of massed male voices singing the big songs. If you are thinking: “I could enjoy that”, contact BMOS for the ride of a lifetime. | ||||||||||||||||
